6-Week Summer Yin Yoga Series — What We’ll Focus On

This 6-week Yin series is designed around the Summer season in Traditional Chinese Medicine, which corresponds to the Fire element and the Heart, Small Intestine, Pericardium, and San Jiao meridians. Throughout the series, we will work with:

🧠 week 2. Upper Body Fascia & Arm Line Mobility

  • This class will unwind the fascial “arm lines” that run through the hands, wrists, forearms, biceps, triceps, and into the chest and neck.
This helps improve posture, free the breath, and release tension that accumulates from daily habits like phone use, computer work, and stress guarding.

Pericardium: boundaries + emotional protection

🔥 week 3. Small Intestine & Shoulder Line Release

  • The back of the shoulders, outer arms, and side of the neck follow the Small Intestine channel.
We’ll use twists, gentle shoulder openers, and neck stretches to create clarity, ease in the upper body, and freedom around the shoulder girdle—supporting the SI meridian’s role in discernment and sorting.

Small Intestine: clarity, letting go of what’s not needed

👐 week 4. Hands, Arms, Throat & Neck Attention

Because Fire element meridians travel through the palms, pinky fingers, arms, and into the throat/cheek/neck areas, we’ll include shapes that gently:

  • stretch the palms and inner arms

  • release the wrists and forearms

  • soften throat and jaw tension

  • open side neck lines

This supports more balanced energy circulation in the upper body.

  • San Jiao: regulation, harmony, fluidity

🌿 week 5. Cooling & Grounding Shapes to Balance Summer Heat

This class will include grounding postures—hips, hamstrings, lower back—to balance the natural outward expansion of summer.
We’ll use forward folds, supported folds, twists, and stillness to cool the body, calm the mind, and harmonize the Fire element.

🧘‍♀️ week 6. Joy, Boundaries, and Ease with all our favourite shapes from this season

This week we explore the emotional qualities of the Fire element - utilizing all the shapes we have had a focus on and its meridians we will then explore

  • Heart: joy, warmth, presence

  • Small Intestine: clarity, letting go of what’s not needed

  • Pericardium: boundaries + emotional protection

  • San Jiao: regulation, harmony, fluidity

These classes help cultivate open-heartedness without overwhelm, so students feel supported, spacious, and emotionally steady during the intensity of summer.
